A monitrice is a labor companion who functions with a scope of practice between that of a doula and midwife. The same wonderful emotional and physical labor support is given, but with the addition of clinical skills such as cervical checks and fetal heart monitoring, as well as a deeper understanding of the process of normal labor, medical interventions, and normal postpartum progression.
If your desire is to labor at home and have respectful and knowledgeable monitoring of you and your baby’s progress with clear indication of when it’s time to go to the hospital, or if you are facing some health challenges with your pregnancy and you desire a labor support person with greater knowledge and experience, you may benefit from the services of a monitrice.
The fee for Monitrice services is $1,800.
It includes:
Two to three visits prenatally
Unlimited availability by phone or email, from beginning of services to two weeks postpartum
Attendance at your labor and birth; including labor at home with planned transition to hospital
Two to three postpartum visits to check up on your healing and you and your baby's well-being, including breastfeeding support
I welcome your questions and offer a free informational meeting on Zoom to discuss your care options. Contact me here.
